On Thursday, TripAdvisor released it list of the “Dirtiest Hotels” in America, based on traveler reviews. Topping the list for 2009 is Hotel Carter in New York City.

Martin, from Copenhagen, Denmark wrote “I stayed at Hotel Carter for a week, and it is without doubt the worst stay in my life. I have traveled all over the world on business and pleasure, and have just not seen anything like this. The room was so dirty that the Health Board should have closed it down years ago…”

Wikipedia says it has been ranked the dirtiest hotel in America four years running. You can read all about the hotel history at,Manhattan

Vudubabz from Royal Oak, Michigan, wrote: “Discover new diseases during your stay - For free,” and posted some fairly remarkable photos at . The hotel’s website describes itself as “a unique, inviting departure from traditional hotels in Manhattan.”

The majority of hotels on the dirtiest list can be found on the east coast. The chain appearing most often is Days Inn.
