According to the National Weather Service, a powerful upper-level storm will track across central Alabama into Southern Georgia on Sunday, March 1 and Sunday night, March 2. It is expected that rain will change to a mixture of rain and snow, leading to all snow as the cold air aloft builds in from the west. Heavy rainfall across the area has caused significant runoff into streams and rivers, causing the rivers to rise. At some points along the river system, flooding will occur. Winds are also expected to develop across most of north and central Georgia on Sunday as the storm system moves across southern Georgia, with wind gusts up to 40 mph possible before they subside toward midnight. The following airlines have issued the following advisories:

Delta Air Lines
Delta Air Lines announced today travel options for customers whose flight plans may be affected by severe winter weather at the Atlanta hub through Monday.

Customers booked on flights operated by Delta, Northwest Airlines, or Delta Connection carriers to, from, or through Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport through Monday, March 2 may make a one-time change to their travel schedule without fee if tickets are changed by March 9, 2009.

Delta is proactively thinning flight schedules to and from Hartsfield-Jackson through Sunday to ensure delays are minimized during the storm. However, customers may wish to consider postponing or rerouting their trip without penalty to avoid possible inconvenience.

Travel for changed itineraries must begin by March 9, and changes to origin and destination may result in a fare increase. Any fare difference between the original ticket and the new ticket will be collected at the time of rebooking. Customers whose flights are cancelled may request refunds. Complete details are available at delta.com and nwa.com.

All customers traveling to, from or through Atlanta are encouraged to visit delta.com or nwa.com to check the status of their flights before arriving at the airport. Updates on flights also are available by calling 1-800-325-1999 (Delta) or 1-800-441-1818 (Northwest).

Passengers holding reservations for travel scheduled February 28 through March 1, 2009 on AirTran Airways to, from, or through Atlanta, Georgia may make a change without penalty as long as changes are made up to five days following the date of the original scheduled departure date, based on space availability without change fees or fare adjustments.

Passengers holding reservations for travel affected can make changes at their website at www.airtran.com after 7:00 pm EST today or by calling 1-800-AIRTRAN (247-8726) any time.
