Bushfires 'not affecting tourism in Victoria'
Travellers have been reassured that the recent bushfires in the Australian state of Victoria have not affected the region's main tourism areas.
Authorities in Melbourne said that the city and the majority of the popular tourism experiences in the surrounding state have not suffered an impact from the fires.
Destinations that remain safe and unaffected for tourists include the Great Ocean Road, Phillip Island, the Mornington peninsula, the Grampians and the Goldfields.
There has been no affect on air services in and out of Melbourne airport, which has remained fully operational during the bushfires.
Claire Golding, Tourism Victoria's regional manager for the UK and Europe, said: 'This was a terrible thing to happen but, from a tourism perspective, it does not affect most places that British travellers would visit.
'The majority of Victoria's popular tourist regions, including the city of Melbourne and the iconic Great Ocean Road, have been unscathed by the bushfires.'
The fires, which have mainly affected parts of the Yarra valley, Gippsland and the High Country, have destroyed more than 1,800 homes and displaced some 7,500 people.
