Southwest Airlines announced it will begin operation of its new Boeing 737MAX8 starting October 1 of this year.
In the first week of service, 9 of these new aircraft will start air service to over 20 cities that Southwest flies to in the United States. A 10th 737MAX8 will begin flying the week after that.
Southwest is following a worldwide market trend to replace ageing aircraft with new fuel-efficient airplanes. This particular aircraft will allow the airline to add lengthier flights to its schedule, as its efficiency means it can fly farther than the aircraft currently being used.
