Seychelles to co-chair Nairobi youth summit

Seychelles former President James R. Mancham is set co-chair the International Young Leaders Summit, which will be held in Nairobi, Kenya from March 18 – 22, 2009.

The event will focus on the theme "The Role of Young Leaders in Achieving UN Millennium Development Goals and Peace Building in Africa.”

Joining Mr. Mancham in as co-chairs are Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Universal Peace Federation co-chairman Dr. Hyun Jin Moon, and Martin Luther King III, chairman and CEO of the Realizing the Dream, Inc.

The International Young Leaders Summit (IYLS) is an annual international conference of young leaders and professionals dedicated to the development of a peaceful world and a prosperous environment for human development.

The IYLS 2009 will bring together approximately 400 young leaders from Africa, the Middle East and Europe to forge path ways for peace and prosperity in areas devastated by violent conflict and poverty.

The summit will give emphasis to the development of a new paradigm for leadership guided by the principles of “living for the sake of others” which balances both spiritual and secular perspectives.

The IYLS will also facilitate the collaboration of governments, inter-governmental and faith based organizations, the private sector and civil society and bring together leaders who are committed to racial and religious tolerance.

in his announcement of the meeting, Mr. Mancham said: “The newly elected United States President Mr Barack Obama, with roots in Kenya has opened new doors for the future of human society by expanding the boundaries of hope and possibility. The IYLS 2009 in Kenya will be the first summit in the African-Europe and Middle East regions setting off this global event. He said that the Nairobi Summit will also be used to launch a global service alliance and to appoint and award international young ambassadors for peace.”
