The trade union ver.di has called for strike action by ground staff on 10 March 2017 at the Berlin airports. Due to the strike, flights may be cancelled or delayed at short notice. Exceptions to the cancellations are likely to be long-haul flights and the feeder flight AB6431 to the airberlin hub Dรผsseldorf. Also the flight AB 8380 to Tel Aviv is expected to take place as scheduled.

The strike will have considerable effects on all air traffic to and from Berlin. Passengers must expect delays, flight cancellations and restrictions in baggage handling. airberlin recommends valuables (for example car and house door keys, jewellery, laptops, medication, etc. are carried exclusively in the hand luggage.

Thomas Winkelmann, CEO airberlin: “We deeply regret the inconvenience caused to our passengers due to the strike. We fail to understand why the bargaining parties must strike at the expense of the passengers. In addition, we also see it as irresponsible to call a strike for the end of the ITB, when visitors from all over the world wish to travel home from Berlinโ€œ.

Information on rebooking options and restrictions in baggage handling Passengers that are affected by a flight cancellation due to the strike on 10 March 2017 can either rebook their flight to an alternative date or have their ticket costs reimbursed. Please contact the airberlin Service Centre for further details. Passengers whose flight is part of a package holiday should please contact their tour operator or travel agent directly.

airberlin furthermore offers all passengers, whose domestic flight to and from Berlin had to be cancelled due to the strike, the option of exchanging their flight ticket for a free ticket voucher for the Deutsche Bahn. The passengers receive the vouchers on presenting their travel confirmation (boarding pass or ticket number) at the respective airberlin airport ticket counter. In addition, airberlin has set up a service counter at the gate position A2 in Terminal A in the airport Berlin-Tegel. In order to reduce the waiting times when exchanging the ticket, airberlin asks all passengers to please keep their travel confirmation at hand.

airberlin would like to point out that passengers should plan for sufficient waiting time, on the flights from Berlin and regularly inform themselves of the status of their flight at airberlin.com/flugstatus or through the free phone hotline 00800-57378000 specially set up. Longer waiting times are to be expected due to the increased number of calls.

airberlin regrets the inconvenience caused by the strike and is trying to minimise the effects for its passengers as much as possible.
