Belgian Pride Festival to launch 2017 European Pride season

20

Like every year, the LGBTQI+ community is honored in the month of May. This year, the Belgian Pride Festival, which will be held from 4 to 20 May, will offer a range of activities, soirées, workshops, guided tours and entertainment. It will close with the must-see Belgian Pride and the Parade, which will pulse through the streets of Brussels.

This will be the 22nd edition of the Belgian Pride, opening the European Pride season, as it does every year. Festivities will begin with the traditional MiniPride, on 4 May 2017, during which the parade will flock through the Brussels streets to the beat of the Meyboom Fanfare. On the way it will salute the Manneken-Pis, which will be dressed for the occasion in a costume specially designed by Belgian Pride.

During the two weeks that follow, the Belgian PrideFestival programme will feature a variety of activities focused on the theme of ” Asylum and Migration “. That’s because, apart from being a festive event, the Belgian Pride and its festival is the ideal time for putting forward the community’s appeals and suggesting new lines of political thought. All to make society more egalitarian and more open-minded.

The PrideFestival will close on 20 May with the must-see Belgian Pride, the highpoint of the two weeks of the festival. The opening speech and the send-off of the Parade, with more than 60 participating delegations, will happen at the Mont des Arts. The parade will make the centre of Brussels shine with the colours of the rainbow and sing its message of acceptance. PrideVillage, with its interactive information stands, its events and its music, will once again adorn the Mont des Art, where the party will go on until late in the evening.
