The Kenya Wildlife Service, in cooperation with their counterparts in Tanzania, TANAPA, will early next week commence an aerial game census in the key elephant areas of Tsavo, the Taita Hills and across the border in Tanzania the Mkomazi National Park.

The operation will last for 12 days until the 24th of February and allow to put past census results in context with the new data expected from this count.

The area covered measures nearly 49.000 square kilometres, a massive undertaking by any standards.

It could not be established if the census cost are born by KWS alone or if partner organizations have come on board to help meet the massive cost in fuel and flying hours.
