The Seychelles Tourism Board participated in the Vakantiebeurs fair that took place in Utrecht, Netherlands from the 10th – 15th January 2017.

The first day of the Vakantiebeurs is dedicated to the professionals and the other 5 days is open to the public with Friday evening being the longest day where it’s open until 8pm.This was the 06th year that the Tourism Board participated and had with us on the stand as partner the Beachcomber Hotel who were represented by Mrs. Sandra Ober and Mr. Ramesh Mawood. On the STB side, the fair was attended by Senior Marketing Executive Ms. Christine Vel and Marketing Executive Ms. Mavreen Pouponneau.

The turnout for the fair in general was extremely good and same goes for the Seychelles stand where we had a lot of attention especially with our very colourful scheme. Our positioning which was right at the entrance was an extra plus for us. There was a lot of interest from people wishing to combine with safaris in Africa especially those going to South Africa who can then hop on the Air Seychelles flight. Honeymoon was also one of the main interests we got from the ‘younger’ visitors.

There is still a lack of awareness from the general public about the location of Seychelles geographically as this was one of the main question asked but it was also good that we were there as that permitted us to broaden their knowledge and explain what the destination has to offer. We find that in the Netherlands Tour Operators are mostly selling the big hotels so the public is not necessarily aware that there are small affordable accommodations as well which we could explain to them.

To note that the very important and interesting news was the introduction of the flight by Air Seychelles to Dusseldorf, this will be a great connection for the market as Dusseldorf is just over 1 hour driving from the south of Netherlands.
