Sir Richard Branson must have been a proud man as he took delivery of a brand new Boeing 777-300 ER on behalf of his Australian airline, V Australia. This is the first 777-300ER to go to an Australian airline and the second and third 777โ€™s are due for delivery in the coming weeks.

V Australia will launch trans-pacific services on 27 Feb. when the first V Australia takes off from Sydneyโ€™s Kingsford Smith airport bound for Los Angeles in the states and flights will bulid up and by 20 March will have become daily. The second new flight commences on 08 April when V Australia inaugurates the Brisbane to Los Angeles flight with the third from Melbourne starting later in the year.

Flights will carry up to 361 passengers in a three class configuration: Business, Premium Economy and Economy class and features state of the art in flight entertainment systems.

Commented Stan Deal of Boeing “It is a great day to see this 777-300ER take on the job it was designed for, V Australia will be the first with 777 services on the Sydney to Los Angeles route-exactly why we built the aircraft. We congratulate V Australia for itโ€™s visionary role.”

The introduction of V Australia has been delayed significantly due to the industrial dispute which affected the production of the 777, the airline had originally planned to start flying last Autumn.

With these new services Virgin can boast that it has become a truly global airline.

How will V Australia compete against the likes of Qantas who fly the unique and popular Airbus A380 double decker or the long established United Airlines. Well if the Virgin marketing machine clicks into top gear it will do very nicely thank you. According to press reports Sir Richard thinks competition from United may be short lived.

The low cost model of sister company Virgin Blue has been employed and there are some real bargains to be had at the moment. For instance Qantas are offering a lowest price from SYD to LAX of over AU$2100 whilst V Australia are offering the same round trip for AU$ 975. The message is therefore clear……book now and bag a great deal.
