An Italian tourist was killed on Thursday, December 8 after he mistakenly entered Morro dos Prazeres, a shantytown in Santa Teresa, Rio de Janeiro’s central region.

An Italian tourist was killed on Thursday, December 8 after he mistakenly entered Morro dos Prazeres, a shantytown in Santa Teresa, Rio de Janeiro’s central region. The Homicide Office will investigate the case. The foreigner was accompanied by a friend, also Italian, who managed to flee the place and survived.

According to information from the Command of the Pacifying Police Unit (UPP) Pleasures, police officers received a complaint, around 11am, that two tourists had disappeared in the favela.


The Pacifico Police Coordination reported that a siege was made in the region and the body of one of them was located in Candido de Oliveira Street. The second tourist was rescued without injuries by the agents in one of the accesses to the hill.

The two motorcycles on which they were were also recovered by the PMs and searches are being made with the support of other UPPs and battalions. Teams of the Policing Battalion in Tourist Areas (BPTur) are also on-site providing assistance to the victim.
