Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism said it has the launched a “microsite dedicated to attracting gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender leisure travelers to the commonwealth.”

The office, known as MOTT, cited data from a market research firm, Community Marketing Inc. of San Francisco, that estimates lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender, or LGBT, consumers spend about $70 billion on travel in the United States.

โ€œMassachusetts is open and welcoming to all visitors, and the acceptance of same-sex marriage is ample proof,โ€ said MOTT executive director Betsy Wall said in a statement. โ€œIn 2004, Massachusetts was the first state to legalize same-sex marriage and is currently one of only two states to extend marriage privileges to same-sex couples. Marriage information is available on the site as well as extensive information on events and activities, destinations and travel information that may interest the LGBT traveler.โ€
