This meeting focusing on Creole culture was timed perfectly with the Kreol Festival going on in Seychelles, which began last Saturday morning on Market Street in the center of Victoria.

Reunion Island, like the Seychelles, is a defender of the Creole culture and language and works closely alongside Mauritius and Rodrigues, and the Creole islands of the Caribbean, inclusive of Haiti.

Didier Robert, the Regional President of Reunion Island and also Senator in France, has arrived in Seychelles and was greeted at the islandsโ€™ International Airport by Alain St.Ange, the Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture. Also present at the airport were Anne Lafortune, the PS for Tourism; Benjamine Rose, the PS for Culture; and Sherin Francis, the CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board.

President Robert will tomorrow co-chair a press conference with Seychelles Minister St.Ange after a bilateral meeting between representatives of the two islands. “This will be an opportunity to review the areas of cooperation between Seychelles and Reunion and analyze our successes,” said Minister Alain St.Ange.

Kreol Festival in Seychelles hits city center Market Street with islandsโ€™ music

The opening of Kreol Festival saw local music by popular โ€œmoutyaโ€ groups being performed and appreciated by shoppers and visitors to Seychelles. This event was part of the 2016 Festival Kreol and was attended by Alain St.Ange, the island’s Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture, and Benjamine Rose, the PS for Culture. The popular moutya performer, Norlice Rose of Fec Arive, was himself present to pull the crowd of shoppers to the pedestrian part of Market Street as the newly-crowned Miss Kreol International, Omegan Jean-Marie Ciseau, danced and entertained shoppers.

The Festival organizers have this year increased the number of events where local artists have been invited to showcase their talent and increase awareness of the island’s annual Festival Kreol.
