KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – Sunway Hotels & Resorts has opened its first Regional Sales Office in Shanghai, aiming for double-digit revenue growth for its hotels arising from the burgeoning and affluent outbound Chinese travel market.

This strategy, forms part of Sunway Hotels & Resortsโ€™ Greater China Market Development, is in partnership with Century Holiday International Travel Group. The Regional Sales Office in Shanghai will be responsible for developing and managing Sunwayโ€™s key accounts in Greater China and to expand the market through the generation of sales leads and bookings in the leisure and corporate segments for Sunway Hotels & Resortsโ€™ 11 premium hotels and resorts in Malaysia, Cambodia and Vietnam, representing over 3,300 guestrooms, suites and pool villas.

โ€œOur presence in China affirms Sunwayโ€™s commitment to further strengthen the brandโ€™s footprint, catering to the robust Chinese outbound corporate travel and leisure tourist marketsโ€, said Albert Cheong, CEO of Sunway Hotels & Resorts. Cheong added, โ€œAs the Chinese outbound travelers continue to accelerate demand for new experiences, each of our hotels in recent months have successfully completed numerous product upgrades and renovations, as well as introduced several China-ready services catering to the specific needs and desires of a new generation of Chinese travelers. Working alongside Century Holiday will provide Sunway the platforms to capture a significant share of a growing number of Chinese outbound travelers across all segments of the marketโ€.

James Liang, President of Century Holiday Travel International Group said โ€œOur strategic partnership identifies and enables vital opportunities for Sunway Hotels & Resorts to build on the momentum in the Greater China market, and achieve longer term success in attracting Chinese outbound travelers to its unique and diverse properties in Malaysia, Cambodia and Vietnamโ€.

Following the opening of the Regional Sales Office, Sunway organized a three-city roadshow from 19 to 23 September 2016 to promote several of Sunwayโ€™s iconic facilities as a major tourist and convention destination for the Chinese travelers. The roadshow, in collaboration with Tourism Malaysia, Malaysia Airlines, Air Asia and Century Holiday, provided local travel and industry partners in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou for one-on-one meetings and facilitated immediate business prospects. The Sunway team was also represented at the recently concluded 3rd Sichuan International Travel Expo (SCITE) in Emeishan, China.

The Chinese outbound market continues to gain momentum as one of the fastest growing source markets for Sunway Hotels & Resorts, specifically at the brandโ€™s flagship hotels in Sunway City Kuala Lumpur, namely the iconic 5-star Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa, the newly renovated 4.5 star Sunway Pyramid Hotel and the brand new 4-star Sunway Clio Hotel which integrate seamlessly with the multi award-winning Sunway Lagoon theme park and the immensely popular Sunway Pyramid shopping mall.

Other Sunway hotels that appeal to the Chinese travelers include the 5-star Sunway Putra Hotel Kuala Lumpur, the brandโ€™s luxury wellness resort, 5-star The Banjaran Hotsprings Retreat in Ipoh, and located in Malaysiaโ€™s northern island state of Penang, the 4-star Sunway Hotel Georgetown, known for its central location to the UNESCO World Heritage Site and Georgetownโ€™s major tourist attractions.
