AMMAN – The Jordan Tourism Board is targeting tourists from China and Hong Kong with 2 websites in Mandarin and traditional Chinese.

The Chinese languages are the newest edition to 8 other international languages available on its www.visitjordan.com website: Arabic, English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian, and Japanese.

JTB Media and Communications manager Tohama Nabulsi expressed delight at the launch of the two Chinese languages and said they would provide JTB with a valuable platform to reach a large and important segment of world travelers. She said, โ€œThey would also help us communicate the elements of [our] unique Jordan experience to the Chinese public.โ€

The website provides valuable information on Jordan and its diverse and wealthy range of destinations. It gives the visitor a look at the Kingdom, its history and sites, important facts and figures, and an interactive map. It also provides a link to a key event planner, which gives visitors an advanced look at an array of events that are planned to take place during their visit to Jordan and can be sorted by date, type, and location.

China and India are among the new markets JTB is looking at in its efforts to expand its global reach. Jordan is already an increasingly popular destination among European and American tourists.

Recently released statistics show an 8.4 percent increase in the numbers of American overnight visitors in 2008 (compared with 2007), and a 16.3 percent rise in Canadian visitor numbers. European tourists have generally risen by an average of 15.2 percent despite a drop of visitors from the UK. Visitor numbers from Latin America have registered impressive growth levels in 2008, particularly from Mexico (61 percent), Brazil (80.5 percent), Argentina (134 percent), Chile (106 percent), and Colombia (63.5 percent).
