Swaziland, the tiny landlocked country within the borders of South Africa, is the perfect destination for exploring the countryside on horseback.

Exploring on horseback offers perhaps even greater freedom than on foot or on a bike and views always seem to be more spectacular when seen from the back of a horse! Swaziland offers visitors the opportunity to discover the beautiful country along a number of horse riding trails and, again, duration can be anything form a couple of hours to a number of days, depending on experience and ability.

The main stables all have good facilities and cater to all levels:

Mlilwane (Chubeka Trails), Swaziland’s pioneer conservation area is a beautiful, secluded sanctuary situated in Swaziland’s ‘Valley of Heaven’, the Ezulwini Valley, in between Mbabane and Manzini. Mlilwane is a hub of activity for local birds and wildlife and visitors can enjoy the beauty of the surroundings and the abundant wildlife that grace the plains by foot, vehicle, on horseback and on mountain bikes, all led by Swazi guides who are experts in their field.

Hoofbeat Safaris Swaziland is a family owned business aimed at providing guests with an unforgettable experience on horseback. Explore the beautiful mountainous terrain on their well schooled and fit horses. They offer different trails for riders of all experience levels as well as multi-day trails for experienced riders. Being situated in the Ezulwini valley between numerous luxurious hotels, guests can pick from many different accommodation options to suit every taste. For the real adventurer Hoofbeat also provides the option to sleep out on the mountain

The quiet and charming village of Mhlambanyatsi, which lies to the west of the Hhohho region, offers horseback riding and this is a very popular activity with guests as they explore the Usuthu Forest.

Framed by Malolotja’s majestic peaks rests Swaziland’s northern highland Paradise, Hawane Resort. Situated only 2 hours south of Kruger Park, the breathtaking beauty of the area and its spectacular views transport visitors into a multi-dimensional experience which offer as much adventure, solitude, adrenaline or tranquility as desired. If the stunning views aren’t enough to keep you entertained, there is a fully equipped games room and toys for indoor and out that will amuse all ages, and of course horse riding is a firm favourite.

Nyanza Stables is a family owned farm that offer not only horseriding but also guest cottages, a Jersey dairy herd and lots of farmyard animals. Many of their animals are rescue animals and have a story to tell. Guests are made to feel at home on the farm and invited to stroll down the farm lanes and look out across the open fields towards the mountain ranges and bask in the stillness of Swaziland.
