Sep 18, 2016

NEW YORK CITY, NY - NYFD firefighters are at the scene of an explosion in New York City, after a dumpster blew up in Chelsea, blowing out the lower windows of a 14-story building that provides housing, training and services for the blind.

The Fire Department says the blast was reported shortly before 9 pm, Saturday, on West 23rd Street in the Chelsea neighborhood on the West Side of the borough of Manhattan.

Police officials say that at least 26 people suffered injuries from what appears to be an explosive device. All the injuries were believed to be minor, according to the Fire Department of New York.

Two buildings to the east of the facility were being evacuated with multiple emergency vehicles rushing to the scene.

No fires or other explosions were reported, but the NYPD Bomb Squad was searching the area for any other possible explosive devices.
