The charm of Beijing shines in New York again

NEW YORK, NY - Beijing, the capital city of China that converges at the crossroads of ancient China and a modern metropolis, was in the spotlight on Saturday September 3, 2016 in New York City as the Beijing Municipal Commission of Tourism Development hosted "Charming Beijing, An Incredible Tourism Destination" at the New York Mets Citi Field in conjunction with a MLB baseball game Mets vs Nationals.

This year's theme was to celebrate the rich historical and cultural background of China's capital city and to promote Beijing as a world renowned travel destination for American tourists.

Before the NY Mets take on the Washington Nationals for Saturday night's baseball game, traditional Chinese Beijing style dance performances, Chinese calligraphy were featured live on stage at the Citi field stadium. During the game, a variety of videos displayed across the stadium's LED screens to highlight Beijing, China as a premiere global travel destination, bringing attention to the cities top attractions.

The event was hosted organized by the Sino-American Friendship Association (SAFA) and the NY Mets. The cultural festivities extended to outside the stadium as event organizers presented a cultural tourism booth to introduce China's vibrant culture and Beijing's rich ancient history to American baseball fans with a variety of complimentary surprises and Beijing travel information.

Ms. Yue Wang, Vice Chairwoman of Beijing Tourism was invited as the honorary guest and threw out the first pitch for the game. New York governor Cuomo, Senator Gillibrand and Schumer, NY Assemblyman DenDekker as well as the NY Mayor Blasio sent their support for the evening's event and expressed congratulatory messages that were shared during the reception.

Vice Chairwoman Yue Wang said although language can be a barrier to communication, tourism connects people from around the world to engage and interact beyond the limitations of speech alone.

Ms. Li Li, EVP of SAFA, also believes that tourism creates opportunities to enhance the US-China relationship by providing positive interactions based on friendships that have the power to reduce traditional barriers to communication and improve cross-cultural understanding.

The story of Beijing began over 3,000 years ago and continues to unfold today as its rapid development matures into a globally prominent city. In addition to Beijing's seven UNESCO world heritage sites, Beijing's softer attractions include ancient Chinese style streets, alleys, and temples allowing traveler's to catch a glimpse into this unique cities' colorful past.
