Vomiting and diarrhea after swimming in Lake Sammamish in Washington State

Aug 30, 2016

Its a favorite summer lake vacation spot. Lake Sammamish is a freshwater lake 8 miles east of Seattle in King County, Washington, United States.

The lake is 7 miles long and 1.5 miles wide.

Tourists love Lake Sammamish State Park, and beaches are popular for swimming in the summer.

A popular beach has been temporarily closed after more than a dozen kids became sick from swimming there over the weekend.

Local KOMO News reported: King County Public Health officials said up to 15 children who swam at Tibbetts Beach on Friday became sick within 24 hours of their visit. Symptoms included vomiting and diarrhea.

Health officials are investigating and contacting those who became sick. So far, there have been no reports of hospitalizations.

The King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks is now conducting water tests for possible bacteria and algae toxins.
Health officials said the beach closure is just out of an abundance of caution until they can figure out what is causing the illness.
Nearby Sunset Beach is also closed due to an ongoing construction project.
