Music and performances by a number of known artists and entertainers with roots from La Digue were this year the centre of attraction of the opening ceremony.
A show entitled “ZAMI LADIG” with the Zodiac Band as support group brought together an interesting group of Diguois performers for the official opening ceremony of the 2016 15th August Feast of La Digue.
The ceremony with Enrico as MC called the island’s District Administrator Barbara Barallon to deliver the welcoming address. Madame Barallon said thank you to everyone who helped make this feast the event it deserves to be. She called on every Diguois to work together to continue to make their island shine. The District Administrator was followed by Enrico with a poem that spoke about unity and togetherness about La Digue and its inhabitants. It was Minister Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture who was given the honour of official opening the 2016 La Digue Feast and the Minister said as he addressed the large crowd present that La Digue was a successful because it was blessed with a united people who wanted nothing but the best for their island.
‘Tonight you will all see performances by Diguois who have come together to perform for La Digue. You will see Madame Fernande Ladouce who was part of the founding Madilo Group. You will see Thomas Knowles as well as Despilly Williams among many others. Let us applaud them warmly tonight. La Digue depends a lot on its tourism industry and this will continue only if the whole of La Digue continue to work together. Do not lose the uniqueness of this great island and the authentic Creole ambiance of our island” Minister St.Ange said to loud applause.
Performers included Fernande Ladouce and her Masezarin group, Thomas Knowles, Despilly William, Mervin Camille, Roy Ladouceur, Bwa Ver Group, Hank Didon, Gilla Jeanne, Leo, Liska Jean, Darrel Monnaie, Alketha and Eddy Fanchette.
