LOS ANGELES, California – The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management (EAHM) in Dubai specializes in providing business management degrees with a hospitality focus. The Academy, part of the Jumeirah Group, which manages luxury hotel properties, offers students the opportunity to gain first-hand experience through internships and build relationships with people in the industry.

Green Globe recently certified The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management for the second year with the property achieving a commendable compliance score of 81%.

Over the past year, EAHM has focused on improving resource management and social projects. It is of great importance for the Academy to reduce its eco-footprint and the reduction of energy consumption is a major goal. Over the last few months, LED light bulbs have been installed in all areas of the campus saving over 49,500 kilowatts of electricity.

All staff members and students are informed about sustainable practices and encouraged to participate in various green initiatives. At EAHM, environmental awareness is promoted both inside and outside of classes. During Orientation Week, students are educated about the fragility of the environment and the importance of protecting it through various training programs. Dulsco, EAHMโ€™s waste management company, conducted workshops to highlight the importance of waste segregation and recycling for a better lifestyle. Recycling bins are located around the campus.

With over 300 international students, EAHM staff and students participate in cultural events that aim to foster understanding of the local area and social responsibility. During Ramadan this year as part of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, an educational campaign was launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai that aimed to distribute 5 million books to children in refugee camps and schools in need around the world. EAHM donated 25 boxes of books in an effort to provide children in developing countries with quality reading material.

To nurture the mind and soul during the holy month of Ramadan, EAHM students, faculty and staff gave boxes of goods to staff members who are vital in keeping the Academy running. In the spirit of Ramadan, the Academy presented 73 boxes of food and other essentials to valued employees including the Cafeteria Team and Caretakers as a token of appreciation for those who work behind the scenes and involved in day-to-day operations.

CSR initiatives run by the Student Council and EAHM management support non-profit organizations based in Dubai that assist children in the wider community. Monies raised through Non-Uniform Day each month are donated to the Senses Centre that provides accommodation and care for children with special needs from the UAE and the Middle East. The Student Council also contributes to a monetary collection for the Autism Center that assists children in the UAE with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

To promote healthy living at EAHM, menu labeling has been introduced which provides complete nutritional information for diners at the Cafeteria. The labels allow those with dietary requirements and restrictions to eat with ease. The buffet tags have proven popular and received very positive feedback. Furthermore, the campus maintains a small kitchen garden that provides fresh produce for kitchens with plans to develop it in the future. Bokashi systems are also utilized in kitchens that turn organic waste into compost thereby reducing waste volume.
