The Avani Seychelles Barbarons Resort and Spa relaunched the Bazaar Barbarons to its calendar of activities on Saturday in a small ceremony held in the presence of the Minister for Tourism and Culture Alain St.Ange, Indian High Commissioner Sanjay Panda, French Ambassador Lionel Majesté-Larrouy, Principal Secretary for Tourism Anne Lafortune, Chief Executive of the Seychelles Tourism Board Sherin Naiken, and the Deputy Chief Executive Nathalie Didon, as well as other guests.
Several vendors hailing from the small Barbarons community took part in this activity, setting up their stalls at poolside. A wide range of local products were available in those stalls, including traditional food and beverages.
Speaking at the event, Minister St.Ange said it is not enough to market Seychelles using its sun, sea, and sand. It is important that Seychelles showcases its culture through activities such as this bazaar at the Avani Seychelles Barbarons Resort and Spa, he added.
Minister St.Ange said it is good to see a resort putting the Seychellois culture at the forefront. Avani Seychelles Barbarons Resort and Spa has done exactly what his ministry is encouraging tourism establishments to do, and that is to put culture in the midst of marketing.
He saluted the resort for the initiative, and the vendors for helping in the promotion of Seychelles traditions, the country’s Creole identity, and other aspects of its culture. Minister St.Ange is encouraging the other tourism establishments across the country to host more of such activities.
“Miss Seychelles…another world” 2016 Christine Barbier, who is the resort’s ambassador, said the Seychelles has a rich culture and through such activity like the bazaar, visitors to its shores can enjoy what the small island nation has to offer.
Apart from the local products available, those attending the ceremony had the chance to enjoy traditional dance performances by children from the La Misere school and the Tanmi Group.
