Air Tanzania: New boss wanted

Not even a day after the Tanzanian Minister for Works, Transport and Communications suspended the CEO of Air Tanzania – the ailing national airline, more news had emerged from Dar es Salaam that the government is now formally seeking to recruit a successor.

An advert appeared earlier today through which the government is now recruiting a new Director General – the title used in the state-owned airline, for what is generally described as a CEO.

A five-year contract awaits the successful applicant, as well as two brand new Bombardier Q400NG aircraft, which the government had paid a deposit for, and that are due for delivery from September onwards.

It is understood that a group of experts was instituted a few weeks ago by the government to look into the causes for ATCL’s past failures and into how to turn the national airline around and make it financially self-reliant, instead of depending on constant heavy bailouts from the taxpayers.
