Changi Airport's interactive installations entice passengers to explore Singapore

Jul 30, 2016

SINGAPORE - Singapore's Changi Airport has launched 10 interactive installations designed to entice passengers - whether arriving, departing or passing through - to explore the airport and Singapore.

Placed in all three terminals, they include a motion silhouette wall, art pieces of Singapore icons and a dot portraits wall - all of which provide photo opportunities for travelers.

They have been set up using a portion of the $35 million joint partnership fund between Changi Airport Group (CAG) and the Singapore Tourism Board.

The Make It Your Singapore showcase located at Terminal 2's Departure Transit Lounge features a wall using motion-sensing technology, allowing travelers to interact with animated backdrops of Singapore landmarks such as the National Stadium.

Behind it is a "dot portraits wall" where passengers can get black-and-white portraits of themselves taken at different spots of Singapore, such as Gardens by the Bay and Merlion Park .

These portraits are then sent to visitors by e-mail for them to keep as mementos or forward to friends and family.

At some luggage claim belts, visitors will find cardboard artworks of icons such as the Singapore Flyer, Sultan Mosque and Gardens by the Bay, created by local art groups Paper Carpenter and Band of Doodlers.

Japanese tourist Kayo Ishikawa, 42, whose daughters - aged three and 18 months - played at the motion silhouette wall, said: "It is the first time my children have played with something like this and they really enjoy it."

Four new photo spots at terminals 1 and 3 feature 3D backdrops of the River Safari and Marina Barrage and interactive props.

A trishaw also makes a return to Terminal 1 at the same spot where one was placed when the terminal opened in 1981.

Mr Bernard Siew, CAG's vice-president of experience creation, said: "We are excited to introduce to our visitors these interactive experiences at Changi Airport. These new variations are designed to engage their senses and create pleasant memories of their visit to Singapore and Changi Airport. "
