She was in charge of tourism for the Hawaiian Islands of Maui, Molokai and Lanai. Terryl Vencl, Executive Director at Maui Vistors Bureau, is moving to retirement. She issueD this statement:
“It is with mixed emotions that I enter into retirement. It is difficult to leave a career that I have truly enjoyed for over 26 years. Beginning at the Maui Hotel Association in 1990 for 13 years, until my tenure with the Maui Visitors Bureau for the next 13 years, the journey has been far better than I ever expected when I just picked up and moved to Maui in 1987.
I have had so many incredibly rich experiences throughout the years, this due to the many awesome friends and colleagues who have touched my life. This of course makes retirement bittersweet. So I would just like to say to all of you:
To those of you who have supported me through countless legislative processes, council meetings and budget hearings…you have enlightened me.
To my many Board of Directors over the years…you have taught me so much.
To my many mentors, you have been patient with me, you have taught me and supported me through a lot of growth, both personally and professionally for many years.
To my Chapter colleagues you are the best… always supporting, questioning and never giving up so we can give our best efforts.
To my staff of many years you should know I think you are the absolute best staff ever! I am so very proud of your work product and your support.
To my family for their support, encouragement and love… I don’t even know how to begin to thank each and every one of you.
A new chapter is about to begin at MVCB and I expect all of you to show the same wonderful aloha and support to the new Executive Director, Sherry Duong, that you have shown to me. I’m not going away, I will stay on Maui and I will remain active in the community that has done so much for me and that I adore. It is with all my heart and gratitude that I say, a hui hou.
Aloha and Mahalo,
