ISTANBUL, Turkey – US officials said that security at Turkey’s Istanbul Atatürk Airport was “significantly diminished,” as Transportation Security Administration team was conducting an audit at Istanbul’s airport, following failed Friday’s military coup.

Turkish Airlines canceled all flights to the US on Monday, but did not make other immediate changes to its schedule, suggesting the carrier could resume flights soon.

The carrier halted all US flights after the FAA banned all airlines from flying from Turkey to the USA. US-registered aircraft were also prohibited from flying to and from Turkey, but the ban has not affected major US passenger carriers, since they do not serve Istanbul.

According to Turkish Airlines’ spokesman, US officials are in a process of “reviewing security arrangements,” at country’s main airports and Turkish authorities are working with US agency “to confirm acceptable standards and resume services.”
