Mexico Tourism Board presents toy expo in the United States

Children across the US will soon be able to experience and witness the wealth and colors of Mexico’s most popular toys with a traveling show being carried out in the US with the help of the Mexico Tourism Board.

Mexico’s Festival of Toys presenting the Children’s Kite Museum will take place over a period of three years in several American cities and will showcase a total of 600 pieces that form part of an important collection of traditional art of the Latin-American country.

Visitors to the expo will enjoy toys from the “Celebrations” collection, which are toys derived from Mexican festivities such as Christmas, Day of the Dead, Holy Week and Carnival. There is also a recreational area where children can play and interact with replicas of the toys.

The presentation is part of a collection of Popular Art Mexican experts such as Carlos Espejel and Teresa Pomal and is in conjunction with the Children’s Kite Museum that has been enriching children over time.

The exhibition, which opened its doors on December 14th in the Art Museum of The Americas, in Washington D.C., will remain there until March. Workshops developed to help children learn to make toys run from Wednesday to Saturday.

Among other toys, children will learn to produce the famous piñatas that are used so much throughout year-end celebrations, as well as childlike festivals. Children will also learn to assemble a rag doll and inside the IMAX theatre, kids can watch a video of MEXICO where they will learn about and appreciate the wealth and beauty of their neighboring country.

Among other activities that will develop in Washington are the distribution of 10,000 coloring books with images of destinations in Mexico that will help children identify with the patrimonies of the Latin-American country.

Espejel, one of the most important experts in the Mexican toy arena, said of that Mexican toys have three essential characteristics: "Color, candor and ingenuity, and for their manufacture the materials are utilized that the artisan has by hand."

Within these, the materials used include clay, vegetable fibers, cloths, wood, copper, lead, tin, wax and many more.

In short, this is an adventure adults and children alike, should not miss this is a must see event for toy lovers as well as art lovers in general.
