Protective films are fitted on all windows in guest rooms, conference rooms and back offices to block sunlight and UV rays. This technology can potentially reduce energy consumption by up to 30%. In addition, all exterior windows are covered with SOL pl-50 platinum foils manufactured by the Soldera company. Furthermore, guests can be reassured that windows are triple glazed to soundproof any noise from the airport.
The hotel pursues e-mobility options for both guests and staff. Two electric charging stations are installed in the underground parking area. And employees are encouraged to travel on public transportation which is subsidized by the hotel or to carpool. Staff are also choosing to ride bicycles to work in line with the city’s efforts to reduce greenhouse emissions. In addition, with the hotel’s partner Atmosfair, carbon emissions generated by business travel is calculated yearly and compensated through supporting carbon offset schemes and other sustainable projects.
To support regional economic activity, Mövenpick Hotel Stuttgart Airport & Messe offers local young people the opportunity to work in the hospitality field. Department heads have themselves completed courses that qualify them to teach trainees and apprentices at a professional level. Twenty-six trainees currently work in various sections of the hotel and attend special excursions visiting other cities and hotels to learn from colleagues in the field. Students also plan and organize events such as gala evenings for parents that take place in the restaurant. And they represent the hotel at apprenticeship and training fairs along with the HR department.
The social contribution of the hotel to the community is important and it supports local associations and groups. All trainees and cooking apprentices give their time to bake home-made cakes for the Protestant churches of Baden-Wuerttemberg that help people in need by providing warm meals. Once a year, Mövenpick Hotel Stuttgart Airport & Messe runs a charity brunch for Förderverein für krebskranke Kinder in Tübingen, an organization that assists children with cancer. The property also assists Kindrreich the Child Protection Agency in Schorndorf and trainees visit senior citizens at a nursing home each month.
Earlier this year, as part of their CSR activities, Mövenpick Hotel Stuttgart Airport & Messe staff participated in Earth Hour, an initiative of WWF Australia. All lights were switched off and meals served by candlelight to raise environmental awareness regarding climate protection.
In accordance with its eco-friendly purchasing policies, the hotel prefers MSC certified fish and geese are sourced from local producers. A selection of regional wines is available at the Message Bar. And Restaurant Trollinger’s Go Healthy menu has vitamin rich, low calorie menus and organic juices.
