SAN JOSE, CA – On Friday, July 1, the representatives of Lufthansa Group, City of San José, and Silicon Valley’s business leadership – Rose Herrera, Vice Mayor, City of San José, Jens Bischof, EVP Sales and Chief Commercial Officer Hub Frankfurt, Lufthansa Group, Kim Becker, Director of Aviation, City of San José, Chris O’Connor, Senior Associate, Silicon Valley Leadership Group and others, will inaugurate the first-ever nonstop service between Mineta San José International Airport (SJC) and Frankfurt Airport (FRA).


Lufthansa is the first European carrier to offer nonstop flights from Silicon Valley to Germany, continental Europe and beyond. The carrier will launch five weekly nonstop flights, operating the Airbus A340-300 which seats 298 passengers.

1:40 p.m. – scheduled arrival of inaugural Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt, greeted by a water cannon salute*

2:10 p.m. – speaking program

2:30 p.m. – ribbon cutting photo opportunity

2:40 p.m. – boarding begins

3:20 p.m. – scheduled departure of inaugural Lufthansa flight to Frankfurt

*Replaces the weekly Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting trucks’ water discharge test which typically occurs every Sunday at SJC.
