The International Day of Yoga (IDY) was first commemorated last year across the globe on June 21, after the United Nations passed an India-sponsored Resolution in December 2014.

Seychelles will once again join the rest of the world in marking the International Day of Yoga this month.

Recognizing that this ancient tradition originated from India, responsibility was entrusted to the Indian government to spearhead the IDY-related activities across the world through its diplomatic missions in cooperation with host countries.

The Indian High Commission in Seychelles and the islandsโ€™ Ministry of Tourism and Culture are organizing the second International Day of Yoga (IDY) which will be marked in Seychelles on June 19.

The Seychelles Yoga Association and Nature Seychelles along with the Seychelles Tourism Board and the National Sports Council have all come on board to make this event a success.

Several activities have been organized to mark the occasion such as a mass yoga session, a photo exhibition, and a yoga demonstration by experts specially flown in from India.

The one-hour mass yoga session will be held at Palais des Sports, Roche Caiman, from 8 am on June 19. All those taking part in the session will be provided with free yoga mats and t-shirts.

Following the first International Day of Yoga (IDY), a coffee-table book was launched with a pictorial depiction of global celebrations to mark this special day last year.

The iconic photograph of 500 people performing yoga at Stad Popiler against the scenic backdrop of granitic mountains, documents the celebrations in Seychelles.

The Minister for Tourism and Culture, Alain St.Ange, said that since yoga is not new to Seychelles, it was, therefore, vital for the country to join in this international celebration to mark the second International Day of Yoga (IDY).

Minister St.Ange is calling on the people of Seychelles to join in the celebrations on June 19 and show the world that Seychelles is proud to be part and parcel of this International Day of Yoga (IDY), which is set to promote the instrument of peace, unity, and harmony.

Seychelles is a founding member of the International Coalition of Tourism Partners (ICTP) .
