More Than One Million Overnight Stays

Slovenian natural health resorts nearly booked to capacity last year

By eTN Staff Writer | Jan 13, 2009

Slovenian natural health resorts boasted a great occupancy rate in 2008. The number of overnight stays went up 3.1 percent in the first eleven months of 2008 over 2007. Domestic guests generated 8.6 percent more arrivals and 5.6 percent more overnight stays.

Almost all Slovenian natural health resorts were reportedly booked to capacity, including during the holidays at the end of the year. The statistical data reveal that the occupancy rate during the Christmas holidays was between 80 percent and 100 percent; there were a few vacancies to be found at hotels and self-catering accommodation units for the New Year. These vacancies were quickly taken, however, in view of the fact that some guests, especially from abroad, decided at the last minute where they wanted to spend New Year's Eve. The majority of such guests came from Italy, as they are also the leading nation in terms of tourist arrivals.

Having generated more than one million overnight stays (1,033,819) in 2008, guests from abroad have practically reached the level of 2007. Domestic guests accounted for more than 1.5 million overnight stays, which is up 5.6 percent over the same period in 2007, and the arrival index stood at 8.6 percent.

Again, the most numerous are Italians (74,000), followed by Austrians (71,000), Croatians (26,500) and Germans (19,500). In terms of overnight stays, the order has changed somewhat: Austrians generated the highest number of overnight stays (295,000), followed by Italians (265,000), Germans (95,500) and Croatians (80,500).
