Delta mulls merger with rival airline

Delta Air Lines (DAL) is mulling a merger with United Airlines or another rival and has put its plans to sell its Comair regional jet service unit on hold.

A spokeswoman for Delta said the airline continues to evaluate its options to sell Comair but no decision is imminent.

The airline is assessing the possibility of consolidation among US airlines. Spokeswoman Betsy Tilton said Delta’s board of directors has formed a special committee to work with management to review and analyse strategic options to ensure Delta maintains its leadership position in the industry, including potential consolidation transactions.
