The Victoria Market situated right in the centre of the Seychelles Capital has a new operator serving Creole Cuisine to the many visitors who visit the colourful market and to Seychellois when they at the market. The new restaurant is called “Le Restaurant du Marche”.
Georgette Pool, who already operates a successful eatery at ESPACE Building also in Victoria has taken over the first floor restaurant at the market together with her partner Peter Smith.
To get to the restaurant one goes through an access where Arts and Craft Dealers man a series of souvenir shops filled with an array of handicrafts items.
Last Friday night was the official opening of the new restaurant and it was the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture, Alain St.Ange who was present to do the honours accompanied by Anne Lafortune, the PS for Tourism, Benjamine Rose, the PS for Culture, Sherin Naiken, the CEO of the Tourism Board and her Deputy Nathalie Didon. They joined friends of the Georgette Pool and many of the Arts and Craft Dealers operating in this Sir Selwyn-Selwyn Clark Market, the main meeting point of Victoria. The SOKWE Band was also present with this selection of Creole Music.
When he was invited to address the opening ceremony, Minister Alain St.Ange started by congratulating Georgette Pool and Peter Smith for moving to fill in a void in the heart of Victoria. “This market is visited daily by many visitors in our islands and this eatery profiting our Creole Cuisine is a needed facility. The Arts and Craft Dealers in the market need the continuous flow of tourists and this small restaurant will only help get our visitors to spend more time in Victoria and increase the chances of them buying more items that has a Made in Seychelles label” said Minister St.Ange.
The Tourism and Culture Minister went on to speak about the importance of handicraft dealers for our tourism industry and encouraged them to continue with their chosen line of business. “You are part of those promoting our island’s culture and you are an important part of our tourism industry” Minister St.Ange said to the Arts and Craft Dealers present.
Georgette Pool already has a following from her name as a good caterer today operating at ESPACE Building. “Her Creole cooking is known and the specialities she offers are delicacies we all look for. This is why I can recommend her as an operator providing good and quality Creole dishes” said Minister Alain St.Ange.
