French tourists call English pub in rescue plea

LONDON - A British pub owner says she got an unusual request — a phone call plea for help from two Frenchmen and a dog stranded on cliffs in southern England.
Sue Sleight says that the men called The Port William pub, in Tintagel, on England's southwestern coast, after they were cut off from land by the rising tide.
She says the tourists were lost and had no contacts for emergency services, but remembered the name of a pub they'd passed while walking earlier in the day.
The men called a directory service to ask for the number of the pub and then telephoned Sleight with a plea for help.
Britain's Royal Navy rescued the men and dog by helicopter on Saturday after Sleight raised the alarm. Coast guards said all three were unharmed.
