World Tourism Organization: Progress in Cuba’s tourism

HAVANA, Cuba – The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) recognized the progress of the sector in Cuba during the inauguration of a regional forum with delegates from 26 countries.

HAVANA, Cuba – The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) recognized the progress of the sector in Cuba during the inauguration of a regional forum with delegates from 26 countries.

At the opening of the 60th UNWTO Regional Commission for the Americas, Miguel Diaz-Canel, first vice president of the Councils of State and Ministers of Cuba and member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba, delivered a speech.


According to Diaz-Canel, it is very important the presence in the event of officials from 26 countries, including 15 Ministers of Tourism, who are here to discuss issues of common interest in order to strengthen the industry.

Diaz-Canel stressed that the promotion of tourism in Cuba is not intended to compete with neighboring countries, but to expand the links of cooperation.

The meeting takes place at the Habana Libre Tryp Hotel in the Cuban capital. At the same time takes place the 36th edition of the International Tourism Fair, FITCuba 2016, which is dedicated to the promotion of national culture as one of the main attractions of Cuba.

The official opening ceremony of FITCuba 2016 will take place at the Gran Teatro de La Habana Alicia Alonso in the evening. The fair is dedicated to the promotion of culture. Canada is the guest honor.

According to the organizers, the fair will be attended by over 2.000 delegates from Canada, Germany, Spain, France, United Kingdom, Mexico and the United States.
