ORLANDO, FL - AirTran Airways announced today plans to begin flights between Columbus, Ohio and Fort Lauderdale, Florida effective March 5, 2009. The expanding carrier will be the only airline to offer nonstop daily service between Port Columbus International Airport and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

"AirTran Airways has seen a lot of success in Columbus since entering the market in November 2008, and we are dedicated to expanding our operations where additional flights are needed," said Kevin Healy, senior vice president of marketing and planning for AirTran Airways. "AirTran Airways is committed to providing our customers with high-quality service and low fares to the destinations they prefer."

"We're thrilled AirTran has decided to expand service in the Columbus market after being here only two months," said David Whitaker, vice president of business development and communications for Port Columbus International Airport. "We appreciate the investment AirTran is making in the Columbus community and we expect this new service to Fort Lauderdale will be very popular with Central Ohio passengers."

In addition to the nonstop flights between Columbus and Atlanta, Orlando, Fort Myers, and now Fort Lauderdale, AirTran Airways offers connecting service to more than 40 destinations through Atlanta.
