Easy Jet: Sofia, Bucharest - Close Enough...

140 Bulgarians vow to sue Easy Jet  Jan 05, 2009

The 140 Bulgarians, who were stuck in Bucharest for two days after the low-cost UK airline Easy Jet brought them there instead of Sofia, have vowed to sue the air company.

The news was announced Monday by Kiril Nikolov, one of the 140 Bulgarian passangers coming home from London, who told the Darik Radio one of the passangers had made a commitment to coordinate the filing of a request for a compensation with the company, and of a law suit against it.

The Easy Jet flight from London was scheduled to land in Sofia on Saturday, January 3, at 8:30 pm. The plane landed in Bucharest instead, with the explanation that the Sofia Airport had been closed over inclement weather conditions, while it was in fact functioning properly.

The passengers were kept on the plane for over two hours and were informed that the crew was awaiting updates and landing permission from Sofia. Some of the passengers called the Sofia airport from their cell phones and were told that the airport was open for business.

The Sofia Airport press center confirmed that the airport was operating normally, adding that the solution of the problem with the London flight was only up to Easy Jet.

The 140 Bulgarians finally made it to Sofia by buses on Monday. They are going to file suits against Easy Jet in the coming days after they finally recover from the long trip home.
