Information received from Mauritius suggests that the port authority in the island’s capital Port Louis has now put pen to paper and appointed Bermello, Ajamil and Partners to provide the design for the planned new cruise terminal at the harbor.

Since the change of government and with the Deputy Prime Minister also holding the portfolio of Tourism, the Rt. Hon. Xavier-Luc Duval, has tourism promotion taken a new lease on life, especially after the ouster of the former head of the Mauritius Tourism Authority. Minister Duval, who also presently holds the presidency of the Vanilla Island organization, has been instrumental, with his colleague Alain St. Ange from the Seychelles, to bring cruise lines back into the Indian Ocean. Over the last year has the number of port calls of major cruise ships subsequently increased again and the Mauritius’ government commitment for a new cruise terminal is bound to further rises in port calls.

The company has reportedly also designed the award winning Pier 27 in San Francisco, giving rise to hope that Mauritius’ new cruise terminal will also become an award winner when ready and operational in a few years time.
