LOS ANGELES, California – Pera Palace Hotel Jumeirah was recently awarded the internationally-renowned Green Globe Certification (GGC) following a comprehensive sustainability audit that assessed the implementation of energy saving and other sustainable measures at the property.

The iconic century old Pera Palace Hotel Jumeirah is located in the cosmopolitan city of Istanbul in Turkey. The hotel was designated as the city’s Museum Hotel when, as a tribute to the founder of modern Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, Room 101 was converted into the Atatürk Museum in 1981.

The hotel’s green policies have been developed in the last five months in line with dedicated associates and the management team. The property received its inaugural certification from Green Globe for its outstanding sustainability management plan and environmentally friendly practices. This included a 5% reduction in electricity usage and a 7.5% reduction in water consumption resulting in increased cost and energy savings. The hotel also collaborates with companies that have an understanding of recycling processes and demonstrate environmental awareness. Following the audit, Pera Palace Hotel Jumeirah achieved a compliance score of 83 percent against the Green Globe Standard for Sustainable Travel & Tourism.

Pınar Kartal Timer, General Manager of Pera Palace Hotel Jumeirah, said, “We ended 2015 with good news and were able to tick off our main objective. We are delighted that we managed to receive the Green Globe Certificate in five months with a score of 83 points despite the limitations imposed by working with a historical building. We needed to maintain the hotel’s historic presence and beauty whilst modernizing our sustainable operations.”
