Feb 10, 2016

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is pleased to announce its ongoing support for the team of Thai ice sculptors to join the 43rd International Snow Sculpture Contest 2016, held during February 3-8 at Odori Park, as part of the 67th Sapporo Snow Festival in Japan and the 20th year of Thailand’s participation. This year, the Thailand team presented the sculpture of "Hanuman" – the main character of the Thai national epic, Ramakian, with the objective of presenting the unique characteristics of Thailand, or Thainess, through this legendary performing art heritage.

The Sapporo Snow Festival takes place every year for a week in February, and is one of the most important festivals in Japan. This year, there were 11 teams from different countries joining the contest with Thailand: Commonwealth of Australia, Daejeon Metropolitan City from the Republic of Korea, the Republic of Finland, the Republic of Indonesia, the Republic of Latvia, the Macau Special Administrative Region, Malaysia, the Republic of Poland, Portland and Hawaii from the United States of America, and Singapore.
