Australian singer Grace Barbe who originates from the Seychelles is set to work with the Ministry of Tourism & Culture to help to further raise the visibility of the islands.
Grace Barbe remains very much an island girl even though she has found fame in Australia as a singer and performer. Grace who was in Seychelles last week wanted to rediscover the sights and sounds of her islands so that she could better promote Seychelles in Australia and also in the other countries when performing live during her musical shows.
Grace Barbe performed at the first edition of the Carnaval International de Victoria six years ago and is a Tourism Ambassador of the islands. She never misses to speak about Seychelles and her visit ‘home’ this time was to be better acquainted with all the new developments on the islands.
Grace Barbe also met with Minister Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister for Tourism and Culture at the ESPACE Building Offices of the Ministry in the presence of Benjamine Rose, the PS for Culture and her movements around the islands coordinated by the Team of the Seychelles Tourism Board. It was during her meeting with the Minister that Grace Barbe proposed for a meeting of all Tourism and also Cultural Ambassadors of the islands who are today living and working in the four corners of the world. The idea was well received and it was agreed that for Kreol Festival in October this year arrangements will be made on the program for a reunion of the Seychelles Tourism and Cultural Ambassadors.
This 2016 Kreol Festival will also be an important date as Seychelles is rebooking at its main cultural event to relaunch it now that it is in its 31st year since the celebrations were first launched. President Michel has asked the Ministry of Tourism and Culture to relook at the event to make it the biggest cultural manifestation of the islands.
Grace Barbe on her part said that she will do all she can to spread the word about the Seychelles as she tours Australia and other countries for musical performances. Minister St.Ange and PS Benjamine Rose both thanked Grace Barbe for remaining a true Seychellois. “You can take the girl out of Seychelles, but you cannot take Seychelles out of Grace Barbe” Minister St.Ange said as told Grace that he really appreciated her love for her country.
