Indonesia is no stranger to terrorism. The country is fortunate. Today’s attack is the first within 7 years of silence.

Indonesia is no stranger to terrorism. The country is fortunate. Today’s attack is the first within 7 years of silence. Indonesia’s security situation is in general stable, and tourism in the country is at an all-time record.

Today’s attack in Jakarta was obviously aimed also at foreigners, shoppers and tourists. Selecting a known upscale shopping center in the heart of the city and next to a Starbucks is no coincident.

Only tourism can fight terrorism. These are the words of Mr. Feisol Hashim. He has been a true leader in the international travel and tourism industry and has homes in Jakarta, Bali, Komodo and Perth.

Feisol has served on many local and international boards related to the travel industry, including PATA, and was one of the first supporters for ASEAN tourism. He was an advisor for several ministers of tourism and had started many known initiatives in Indonesia.

He is a peace loving man, a devoted Moslem. When he donated a new mosques in Komodo, he also built a Christian Church. He is the owner of the Alam Hotel group in Bali and Jakarta.

Feisol was one of the first responders at the Bali terror attack. His wife is American and he has traveled the world. Feisol was among those that first started this publication (eTurboNews) at his hotel, the Alam Kul Kul in Kuta, Bali in 1999.

He posted this comment from his third home in Perth, Australia on the eTN Facebook:

Admits the “nothing new ” hand granites and sporadic shooting in Jakarta, to attract attention of the world and to tickle foreign Governments to issue travel warning on Indonesia. Let’s not be the victims of brainless novice terrorism.

I appeal to all friends to carry on their normal life & schedule. All the restaurants, cafes and entertainment centers, cinemas should be opened as usual. Everybody shouldn’t be scared. Keep patronizing your usual places. Trust your own conscience and avoid doubtful places. Enjoy life as normal.

John Daniels, publisher of Bali Update and the owner of an inbound tour operator responded with: “Agreed, Let’s meet for a Starbucks!”
