FRANKFURT, Germany โ€“ Frankfurt Airport (FRA) welcomed its 60 millionth passenger on Tuesday, December 22. This is the first time in the airportโ€™s history that over 60 million passengers passed Germanyโ€™s global aviation hub in a single year. The passenger who marked this milestone is 13-year old Antonia Hein from the city of Fulda. A ceremony was held for her and her family, as they entered FRAโ€™s Terminal 1 at 2:30 p.m. to check in for their Condor flight to Cape Town, departing in the evening. The family is traveling to South Africa over the Christmas holidays to visit their eldest daughter, who currently lives there.

During the ceremony held in the Terminal to mark the passenger milestone, Fraport AGโ€™s executive director Operations, Anke Giesen, congratulated the young passenger and presented her with a 1,000 euro travel voucher for their next holiday, issued by Fraport AGโ€™s Travel Service. In addition, the family also received a flight voucher from Condor for the leisure carrierโ€™s entire European network, which was presented by Dr. Jens Boyd, Director Long Haul & Revenue Management of the airline.

Fraportโ€™s COO Anke Giesen said during the ceremony: โ€œIt is only 11 years ago that we surpassed the 50 million passenger mark here at Frankfurt Airport. With more than 60 million passengers welcomed in a single year, we have again reached a new dimension. We owe our ongoing growth to the commitment and excellent performance of all airport employees as well as the superb cooperation with our airline customers. We thank the Hein family and all our passengers for the loyalty and trust they place in Frankfurt Airport and our employees as well as in our airline partners.โ€

Condor director Jens Boyd said: โ€œEvery year, over seven million passengers choose Condor to some 75 destinations in Europe, Asia, Africa, and America. We are very pleased to have a great partner like Fraport at our side. Next year, Condor will celebrate its 60th anniversary. Over all these years, we have built strong historical ties with Frankfurt Airport, which has been Condorโ€™s home base since our first flight departed from here in 1956.โ€

In 2015, Frankfurt Airport recorded its busiest day ever, when on August 2 some 217,500 passengers passed through Germanyโ€™s international aviation hub. Over the year 2015, the mark of 200,000 passengers was reached or surpassed on 63 days. In comparison: passenger traffic exceeded this mark only on 28 days in 2014 and remained below that level in 2013.

During the winter schedule 2015/16, FRA is served by 88 airlines flying to 257 destinations in 100 countries worldwide. With 130 intercontinental destinations, more than half of FRAโ€™s destinations are located outside Europe, underscoring Frankfurtโ€™s role as a leading hub in the global air transportation system. In Europe, Frankfurt Airport ranks first in terms of cargo tonnage and is the third-busiest for passenger traffic.
