Presidential elections in Seychelles will see a contest between James Michel versus Wavel Ramkalawan on December 18.

Presidential elections in Seychelles will see a contest between James Michel versus Wavel Ramkalawan on December 18.

The December 5 elections in Seychelles chose James Michel from the Parti Lepep (PL) with red as their campaign color and Wavel Ramkalawan from the Seychelles National Party (SNP) with green as their campaign color to be candidates for the December 18 presidential elections.

James Michel, President of the Parti Lepep (PL), is the incumbent candidate having been President of the Seychelles since 2004, whereas Wavel Ramkalawan was a former Leader of the opposition and leader of the Seychelles National Party (SNP). James Michel and Wavel Ramkalawan came out first and second in the December 5 presidential elections and will now face each other in this straight two-person contest on December 18.

For the December 5 elections, James Michel pulled 23 electoral districts out of the 25 districts, and Wavel Ramkalawan pulled 2 electoral districts, namely Beau Vallon and St. Louis. James Michel pulled 47.76% and Wavel Ramkalawan 35.33% in the December 5 elections. The balance of the votes went to the Independent candidate and the smaller political parties. Both James Michel and Wavel Ramkalawan will be out to appeal to these voters as well as to those who did not come out to vote for their support for the December 18 election day.
