Turkish military officials said a Russian war plane was shot down on Tuesday morning, November 24, 2015, after pilots repeatedly ignored warnings that they were violating Turkish airspace.

The Russia Defense Ministry said an Su-24 crashed in Syrian territory after being hit by fire from the ground by Turkish F-16s. The aircraft was flying at an altitude of 6,000 meters (19,685 feet).

It has not been determined if the pilots were able to eject prior to the crash which occurred in the mountains in the province of Latakia, although witnesses claim to have seen two parachutes descending after the crash.
