New Spanish Ambassador to Seychelles accredited

The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to the Republic Seychelles, HE Borja Montensino, presented his credentials to Seychelles President James Michel at State House this morning.

The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to the Republic Seychelles, HE Borja Montensino, presented his credentials to Seychelles President James Michel at State House this morning.

The President and the Ambassador discussed how Seychelles and Spain can consolidate their already dynamic cooperation and expressed their aspiration to see further partnerships in the fields of fisheries, renewable energy, Blue Economy, and tourism.

President Michel thanked Spain for its goodwill and assistance over the years in the fight against piracy in the EUNAVFOR’s Operation Atalanta.

After the accreditation ceremony, Ambassador Montensino told the national media that one of his priorities during his mandate is to promote the Spanish language and culture.

“The Spanish – Seychelles relations are full of energy; the have been a long-standing presence to the Republic not only with the fishing activities. … This presence over the last years has been increased through the EUNAVFOR and Operation Atalanta, of ships paying regular visits to the Port of Victoria, and we are very happy,” said Mr. Montensino.

Ambassador Borja Montensino is based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Also present during the meeting were the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Transport, Joel Morgan; the President’s Diplomatic Adviser, Ambassador Callixte d’Offay; and the Spanish Honorary Consul to Seychelles, Captain Edmond Houareau.

Seychelles is a founding member of the International Coalition of Tourism Partners (ICTP) .
