Private Chinese airline suspends passenger service

China's first private airline suspended passenger service 10 days ahead of schedule Saturday as it struggled with financial and management problems.

OK Air had planned to suspend flights for a month starting December 15.

The sudden change stranded hundreds of passengers at the airline's hub in the northeastern city of Tianjin who had to be transferred to other flights.

OK Air became China's first private airline in 2005 and operates 11 planes serving 20 domestic routes.

Only the airline's passenger service has been suspended. OK Air's cargo service will not be affected.
