LOS ANGELES, California – Mövenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Centre features modern, stylish rooms with spectacular views over the city and the river IJ in The Netherlands. The 4-star hotel is within walking distance of Amsterdam’s historical center, its central station and many museums. Its neighbors include the modern Muziekgebouw (Concert Hall) and Bimhuis ranked as one of the world’s best-known jazz clubs. Canal boats and water taxis conveniently stop in front of the hotel at its own jetty. And trams are also located nearby.

Green Globe recently recertified the hotel for the fourth year running in recognition of its continued improvements in sustainable tourism.

Albert Rouwendal, General Manager at Mövenpick Amsterdam said: “Mövenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Centre is proud of its achievement in attaining a Green Globe score of 85%. As Green Globe demands increase, this score is a reward for our ongoing sustainable efforts. We want to be and stay one of the most sustainable hotels in Amsterdam. For example, we ‘donate’ every liter of water being used in hotel rooms for water projects in drier areas in developing countries. This is managed by the organization made blue. Mövenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Centre is the first hotel to participate in Made Blue.”

Hotel water conservation strategies include the installation of dual flush toilets, and low flow showerheads and faucets fitted on taps in guest rooms and in the Wellness center.

The hotel uses geothermal technology to transfer thermal heat produced underground and stores it on the twenty-first floor. In addition, an Energy Management System controls the air conditioning in guest rooms by automatically setting lower temperatures at night and when rooms are unoccupied. An external consultant, Sprinx Energy Management System monitors the reduction targets set for energy consumption.

“All our efforts are communicated to guests in a transparent and attractive way, as we try to raise more awareness and understanding,” added Mr. Rouwendal.

The hotel ensures that its Sustainable Management Plan is disseminated to all staff and guests. Staff regularly receive training in sustainable objectives from their first induction session through to team meetings, forums and via a monthly newsletter. Guests are encouraged to get to know the property’s environmental and social initiatives through in-house television systems, digital screens in the lobby and on the hotel’s website.

To reduce the property’s carbon emissions, two new hybrid cars were purchased last year for use by the General Manager and senior staff. While bicycles are provided for staff and the hotel will pay the costs for those employees catching GVB public transportation. GVB is the municipal public transport operator in the Amsterdam metropolitan area.
