DOHA, Qatar – Qatar Airways was proud to partner with the Doha 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships as the Official Carrier. The event which was held from October 21st to 31st, in Doha, Qatar, saw more than 1,300 athletes from 90 countries participate at the events held at Suhaim Bin Hamam Stadium.

This was the first time that the championships, in which para-athletes competed according to their functional classification, had been held in Qatar. The para-athletes, including those that compete in wheelchairs, with prostheses, and visual impairments, participated in events such as the 100 metres, high jump, and other track and field events.

As the Official Carrier, Qatar Airways supported the World Championships with its ‘Your Inspiration’ competition on its social media channels, including Facebook. The competition called on people from around the world to share a ‘My Incredible Story’ film and tag the person that inspired them, giving them a chance to win a prize of two Business Class flights to Doha for the World Championships.

In addition, the airline partnered with the organizers on the ‘Qatar Airways Selfie Competition’, in which four lucky spectators who posted a selfie from the World Championships on social media using the hashtag #BeyondIncredible won a regional Economy Class ticket with the airline.

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, said: “Qatar Airways is honored and proud to have been the Official Carrier for the championships, which gives the world’s best para-athletes the opportunity to compete against each other on a level that some of us could only dream of. I have no doubt that those who were lucky enough to watch the various events, and meet the inspiring para-athletes, will remember these games for a very long time. We were pleased to be able to welcome so many incredible para-athletes from all over the world to Doha and hope that all left with pleasant memories of their time here.”

Those wishing to learn more about the athletes can follow the ‘My Incredible Story’ campaign, launched by the Local Organizing Committee. The campaign showcases the incredible obstacles, challenges and journeys of some of the world’s greatest para-athletes in order to raise awareness about para-sport and people with disabilities, helping to break down barriers and change perceptions. The incredible stories include Brazilian Terezinha Guilhermina, multiple Paralympic and World Champion, as well as Jarryd Wallace, world record holding American sprinter, and their awe-inspiring stories.
