The beach looks beautiful – only if you overlook buildings that look more like ruins. Local teenagers are having a good time in the sand, but terror and machine guns are not too far away.
The Sahafi Hotel in the most dangerous city in the world is liberated again.
Earlier today Somali Government Forces and AMISOM have taken control of the Sahafi hotel attacked by Al Shabab militants in Mogadishu this morning. At least 12 were killed in Mogadishu after gunmen use a vehicle packed with explosives to blast their way inside a hotel.
You cannot come across the word Mogadishu without the pre-modifying clause, โthe most dangerous city in the worldโ. This may very well be the most dangerous hotel in the world, but the most protected in Somalia.
And fair enough, most luxury hotels do not come with an increased risk of death and kidnap. But there has only been 2 major incidents involving guests of the Hotel Sahafi in Mogadishu, which, for a warzone, isnโt that bad. The Sahafi hotel is one of the more popular hotels in Mogadishu and the hotel of choice for journalists and UN workers who are the main foreign visitors in the city.
On the hotel website a visitors is told: “Staff will give you a warm welcome and you can choose a room from four floors of mostly empty rooms. There is air conditioning throughout which is impressive considering that fuel and electricity are luxury goods in Mogadishu. The restaurant serves three meals a day and serves an excellent lamb chop. To get to visit Mogadishu you will first have to convince customs of your sanity.”
